The
purpose of this meeting was to present the Framework Plan to the past
presidents of the Alumni Association. The members were presented a brief history of the plan's
development, its component systems, preliminary metrics, and a brief look
ahead to the inception of Phase II activities and products. The plan was well received.A
majority of the discussion was focused on opportunities and constraints of
the recommended Frazier Hall removal.
The following comments and ideas were recorded.
·In general, the group agreed that the proposed
demolition of Frazier Hall should be seriously considered.Several opponents to the proposal indicated that the preservation
of architectural history, sentiment, and campus history should be
considered.It was noted that
Las Vegas does not do a "good job" preserving older buildings or
things of cultural/historic value.
·The group acknowledged the importance of Frazier Hall
in the overall development of campus and suggested several ideas to
preserve the integrity of its prominence. One idea suggested the creation of a museum for the upcoming UNLV
50th anniversary, and another suggested creating an
"historical portal" to campus.
·It was agreed that if Frazier Hall were to be
considered for demolition, the consultant team should create operations
depicting what could go in its place, providing graphics and illustrations
of these ideas.The notion of
a "Frazier Mall" entry to campus, a beautiful plaza space, and/or a
"transparent" Frazier Hall were mentioned as possibilities.
